Surah Al Muzammil
The title of this Surah is based on the opening word “Muzammill” meaning wrapped in garments of Prophethood. Allah (S.W.T) addresses the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) as His most Beloved Messenger with His Divinely attributed beautiful name Muzammil. The personal name of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) is Muhammad (S.A.W). Allah (S.W.T) has assigned Him 99 great titles in the Holy Quran, containing profoundest characteristics in Him and raising His status above all Prophets (A.S) of the past.
We usually assign beautiful alternative names to our loved ones to maintain the respect and sanctity of their personal names being so exalted. This shows our inner attachment and great love for that personage, hence we address them politely and beautifully. Allah (S.W.T) has assigned Holy Prophet (S.A.W) the highest Divine respect by addressing Him with one of His best attribute of “Muzammill”, as He (S.A.W) always kept himself wrapped in over-sheet garments for His modesty.
Islam attaches great importance to wrap the human body with pious garments to maintain the sanctity of male and female body chastity. The title of this Surah not only appreciates the wrapping-up of the human body, but makes it a universally unchangeable pattern of Muslim garments.
Our Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) on the Day of Judgement will be concerned for the forgiveness of His Ummah (saying Ya Rubbi Ummati), to bring everyone under His umbrella of Rehmat (Mercy). His blessings will cover the entire human race when brought to justice.
Surah Muzammill is a great spiritual Surah describing the life patterns of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) by His most graceful Divine title. His wearings and sheet wrappings are so dear to Allah (S.W.T) that it is a model of pious dressing.
It is also of great spiritual value to the pious people and Aulia Allah (Friends of Allah) who have profoundest love for the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). Therefore, most of them keep themselves wrapped-up in similar sheet garments as were used by the Holy Prophet (S.A.W).
The believers must follow His (S.A.W) model in all respects according to His practices to become pious, peaceful and righteous to bring peace to humanity with piety, sincerity and humility.
The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) has said “Modesty is a part of Faith” (Muslim Shareef)
